(JollofNews) – The ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Gambia, Colin Crorkin has vowed to work toward the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries, while hailing Gambian leader’s leadership qualities, citing the initiation of the food self-sufficiency philosophy by President Yahya Jammeh as a step in the right direction.
The UK diplomat made the pronouncement in an exclusive interview with the national television channel on Tuesday.
Ambassador Crorkin said his country will continue to open doors for Gambians to benefit from a lot of programs funded by the UK Government, including UK government’s global scholarship programme, the Chevening Scholarship, which he said is according to applicants from different countries including the Gambia.
“I have good relations with not only the Foreign Affairs Minister, but Lands and regional Government and Justice Minister”, he stated while indicating his willingness to improve people to people relations Britain and the Gambia.
It could be recalled that the Gambia withdrew from the Commonwealth sometime last year, after the Gambian leader, Yahya Jammeh branded the 54-member grouping, which includes the UK and most of its former colonies, a “neo-colonial institution”.
